More Than a Tasting
The Story Behind the Glass
Patrick’s journey with wine began in 2016 while filming in South Africa’s Cape Winelands. After years spent traveling the world as a cinematographer, he was accustomed to experiencing places through their people, landscapes, food, and stories. But it was in the Cape that wine became part of that story.

The bottle that changed everything was a 2015 Klein Zalze Family Reserve Chenin Blanc. It was the first wine that made Patrick stop and truly pay attention—not simply to how a wine tasted, but to where it came from, why it tasted the way it did, and the people and history behind it. That bottle sparked a fascination with South African wine that eventually became something much bigger.

In 2020, Patrick and his wife, Lorna, founded Stellies Wines, a South African wine importer based in Los Angeles. With Lorna’s roots in South Africa and Patrick’s growing passion for the country’s wine culture, they set out to bring wines they loved—and that were often difficult to find in the United States—to a wider audience. Through Stellies, Patrick’s appreciation for wine evolved into a deeper understanding of producers, regions, winemaking, and the remarkable relationship between wine, food, and place.
Pairings by Patrick grew naturally from that journey.
Drawing on nearly two decades of international travel and visual storytelling, Patrick approaches wine much the same way he approaches filmmaking: every bottle has a setting, a history, characters, and a story worth discovering. His tastings are designed to go beyond simply identifying tasting notes. Wine becomes a way to travel—to understand a place through what grows there, what people eat alongside it, and the traditions that brought both to the table.
